Background:

We are looking for an experienced individual as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to strengthen our team as a technical expert. In this role, you will lead the development of transfer systems - focusing on kinematic calculations, simulations, and the physical commissioning of advanced automation systems - while promoting technical excellence across cross-functional teams.

The perfect candidate: brings proven experience in the field of XYZ transfer systems, has a high level of innovative ideas and working methods, and successfully contributes to the team with their engaging personality.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

• Technical Expertise (SME): Act as the primary subject matter expert for XYZ transfer systems, automated handling technologies, flexible feeding systems, and precise pick-and-place mechanisms (including customised end effectors and grippers).
• Technical Leadership & Mentoring: Guide and mentor colleagues in mechatronic product development and innovation projects, while establishing best practices, design concepts, and modular standards across various projects.
• Modular Design & Development: Develop reusable mechatronic modules and standardised architectures to maximise efficiency within the business area and beyond.
• Calculations & Simulation: Design drive and motion components (actuators, motors, pneumatics) and perform FEA and kinematics simulations to optimise cycle times, load limits, and dynamic system behaviour.
• Project & Work Package Management: Plan, estimate, and execute technical work packages while adhering to effort, budget, and schedule requirements. Develop decision-making processes and identify and escalate potential project deviations early.
• Analytical Problem Solving & Verification: Conduct 1D/3D tolerance analyses and root cause analyses, monitor physical prototype tests, and present data-driven redesign solutions to stakeholders and product managers.
• Technical Documentation: Create, review, and maintain formal technical documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work effectively with internal and external partners such as production, purchasing, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, service, and external suppliers.

Must Haves:

• Successfully completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 10 years of professional experience in mechanical design, preferably in a regulated environment (e.g. medical technology, diagnostics, or GxP environment).
• Expertise in transfer systems or automation: profound knowledge in mechatronic design of XYZ transfer systems, automation technologies, or robotic arm applications.
• Calculations & physical simulation: strong practical knowledge in mechanical calculations (drive/motor design, moments of inertia, structural loads) and simulations (FEA, motion/kinematic analysis with tools such as ANSYS, MATLAB/Simulink, or native CAD motion modules).
• CAD, PLM & tolerance calculation: solid practical knowledge in CATIA V5 and/or SolidWorks, SAP-DVS systems, as well as sound knowledge of the ISO 8015 standard (Geometrical Product Specification / form and position tolerances).
• Design for Excellence (DFX) & commissioning: profound knowledge of design for manufacturing in various production technologies, material selection, and practical experience in product industrialisation to series maturity.
• Fluent German and English skills, both written and spoken, excellent analytical and systematic working methods, high adaptability, and strong team spirit are required.
