"Execution tailored to measure" is our motto at the Thorberg Correctional Facility. We enforce sanctions on 180 men from over 40 nations in closed custody. Our 130 employees dedicate themselves daily to the reintegration of offenders into society, thereby making an important contribution to public safety. In eleven workshops, we lead and support the inmates according to work-educational principles. Our programmes in the areas of work, therapy, education, sport and leisure are consistently aimed at risk reduction and the social integration of the inmates.
The psychological assessment team prepares a case summary for new inmates based on files and interviews, conducts a risk assessment and creates an initial provisional execution plan. It also supports inmates during a timeout in the assessment department.
Your tasks
- You admit inmates from remand prisons to the Thorberg Correctional Facility for penal execution
- You study the criminal and execution files
- You conduct psychological assessment interviews with the admitted inmates
- You assess risks, identify resources and deficits of the prisoners and derive execution goals from these
- You conduct psychological conversations to stabilise, assess current challenges and promote resources with inmates during timeout placements
- You work in a small team of psychologists, but also very interdisciplinarily with other professional groups in the correctional facility
- You help manage the daily work routine in the assessment centre
Your profile
- Master’s degree in Psychology (university or university of applied sciences), preferably with specialisations in psychopathology and/or forensic/legal psychology
- Resilient, confident and self-assured personality
- Flexible, systematic and reliable working style
- Team player
- Good spoken French is essential. Additional spoken foreign language skills are highly desirable
- Proficient PC user skills

About the Office of Correctional Services
The Office of Correctional Services (AJV) employs around 1000 staff within the Security Directorate of the Canton of Bern (SID) and is responsible for open and closed penal and measure execution for adults and juveniles. To fulfil this task, the office has at its disposal four concordat correctional facilities, four regional prisons, the surveillance station at Inselspital, the detention control centre as well as probation and execution services.
