The Office for Traffic and Civil Engineering (AVT) is responsible for the further development and maintenance of cantonal roads and paths as well as their operational upkeep. It plans and commissions public regional and local transport and approves traffic measures on municipal roads. The goal is to ensure efficient, safe, and sustainable traffic mobility in the canton. For the Traffic Planning Department, we are seeking as of 01.12.2026 or by agreement at the Solothurn location a Head of Department Traffic Planning, 80-100%.
Your responsibilities
- You will lead the Traffic Planning Department with around five employees in personnel, professional, and organisational terms.
- You are responsible for key traffic planning fundamentals, especially traffic figures and overall traffic models as well as agglomeration programmes in the traffic sector.
- You develop forward-looking traffic concepts, are responsible for the cantonal cycling network planning, and accompany overall traffic projects up to the preliminary project stage.
- You assess land use and local planning from a traffic perspective and ensure professionally sound and comprehensible statements.
- As a member of the management team, you help shape the further development of the office and represent it in cantonal and extra-cantonal committees, commissions, and working groups.
Your profile
- You have a completed degree as an ETH/FH engineer in the field of traffic engineering or a comparable university education.
- In addition, you bring sound knowledge and several years of experience in overarching traffic planning and traffic engineering.
- You are a motivating leader with leadership experience and the ability to further develop your team professionally and organisationally.
- Strategic and networked thinking characterises you. You quickly grasp complex contexts, weigh different interests and requirements, and develop viable solutions.
- You work independently and solution-oriented, appreciate teamwork, and communicate clearly, confidently, and appropriately both orally and in writing.
