PhD Program - Ancient Sciences
CategoryPositionEDOCSA brings together the Departments and Institutes of Archaeology and Ancient Sciences of the Universities of Fribourg, Geneva, Lausanne and Neuchâtel. It also includes the teaching and doctoral students of the departments of prehistory and archaeometry located in the Faculty of Science of the Universities of Fribourg and Geneva.
Complete the training of doctoral students in disciplinary fields they have not studied in their curriculum; Enrich their knowledge in varied and specialised research areas related to their thesis; Offer them a place for meeting and intellectual exchange, likely to relieve their isolation and integrate them into the international research circuit.
The course offer is structured into several modules:
Thematic modules.
Disciplinary and/or transversal modules.
Socialisation modules (e.g. meeting days for doctoral students).
Each year, about ten workshops (block courses, doctoral cafés, junior colloquium and seminars) are organised across the four university sites.

Objectives of the doctoral programme
The aim of the doctoral programme is to provide scientific and methodological support to doctoral students in the development of their thesis, pursuing three objectives:Complete the training of doctoral students in disciplinary fields they have not studied in their curriculum; Enrich their knowledge in varied and specialised research areas related to their thesis; Offer them a place for meeting and intellectual exchange, likely to relieve their isolation and integrate them into the international research circuit.
Training and support for doctoral students
EDOCSA is aimed at doctoral students in Ancient Sciences, holders of a degree (Bachelor or Master) from a Swiss or foreign university, and who are registered as doctoral students at one of the four partner universities.The course offer is structured into several modules:
