Would you like to apply your legal expertise at the interface of law, administration and politics while working with an experienced team for Zurich’s schools? Then a varied leadership role with scope for creativity awaits you with us.
The Legal Services for Schools will be newly established within the Department Secretariat as of 1 April 2027. It is created by splitting the previous Legal Services into a General Legal Service and the Legal Services for Schools. While the General Legal Service is responsible for general legal matters and sport, the Legal Services for Schools deals with all legal concerns relating to the city’s schools. These include, in addition to around 100 regular public schools, four special schools, the Viventa vocational school and the Zurich Conservatory of Music.
The position starts on 1 March 2027 or by arrangement.
Responsibilities
- You lead a well-coordinated team of four very experienced lawyers and are responsible for its professional, personnel and organisational management.
- Advising and supporting the department management, service departments, school authorities and schools on legal questions relating to schools with a focus on public law, especially school law, employment law, information and data protection law, procurement law, state liability law and administrative procedural law
- Conducting legal appeal procedures before the City Council, District Council, Education Directorate and Administrative Court (reassessment, appeal and complaint procedures)
- Preparing resolutions for the City Council and school authorities
- Leading legislative projects
Profile
- University degree in law (Master’s level) and preferably a practising certificate
- Many years of qualified professional experience in public law
- Leadership experience, administrative experience and experience in the mentioned legal areas are advantageous
- Excellent verbal expression and ability to assess complex legal issues in a practical and comprehensible manner
- Very independent and efficient working style, high service orientation and resilience
- Team player qualities, negotiation and communication skills as well as understanding of political issues and processes
