About the job
The Horyzon Foundation was established in 1969 and is currently active in six different countries. Horyzon's projects aim to improve the living conditions and health of young people as well as to enable education. Following the principle of "help for self-help," young people learn to stand up for their rights and shape their own lives. They pass on what they have learned to their peers and act as role models for younger children in their environment. The organisation stands on a stable foundation and can rely on a competent and broadly based foundation board. In addition, an efficient office strengthens the institution both internally and externally. The foundation sees the formation of a co-chairmanship as an equivalent option alongside a single appointment.
Responsibilities
• Identify, prioritise and bring strategic issues to the foundation board
• Initiate and accompany necessary processes for good governance and ensure that essential strategic, supervisory and governance-relevant issues are dealt with in a timely manner by the full board
• Prepare foundation board meetings in close cooperation with the management
• Conduct bilateral discussions as the direct superior of the management, about eight times a year or at short notice if necessary
• Represent Horyzon as a delegated person at Cevi Switzerland where possible and participate in meetings of the presidencies of member organisations
• Act as a contact person for strategic issues externally
• Ensure the composition and continuous development of the full board
• Promote a culture in which critical questions and differing opinions have a place
Time commitment
Approximately 80 hours per year with high flexibility. There is the possibility to distribute tasks more broadly within the foundation board, which can significantly reduce the workload.
Requirements
• High integrity, independence and willingness to take responsibility
• Ability to reconcile different interests within a board
• Leadership experience in a non-profit organisation; experience in international cooperation (IZA) is an advantage
• Understanding of IZA, based on the strengths of "locally led action"
• Sound knowledge of corporate or foundation governance
• Ability to distinguish strategic issues from operational matters
• Willingness to shape strategic and conceptual issues
• Interest in and openness to the diverse offerings within Cevi Switzerland as well as in the international context of YWCA and YMCA
• Awareness of risk and security management and willingness to take appropriate responsibility in the rare event of a major crisis
