Luzern
Platform Engineer (a)
- 04 September 2026
- 100%
- Permanent position
- German (Intermediate)
About the job
You keep the foundation of our IT running and take it further: You operate and develop the on-premises platform of the Canton of Lucerne, from virtualisation through the container platform to the Linux and Windows systems. With automation, Infrastructure-as-Code and modern monitoring, you make our infrastructure more efficient step by step and set the standards of tomorrow together with the platform team.
Your tasks
- You ensure a stable, secure and high-performance operation of our on-premises platform by monitoring systems, analysing and resolving issues in 2nd and 3rd level support, and ensuring reliable operational documentation.
- You operate and further develop our virtualisation and container environments with VMware and Red Hat OpenShift, accompany migrations and renewals, and contribute your experience to the expansion of our container platform.
- Recurring tasks become more efficient through your focus on automation: With PowerShell, Ansible/AWX, Terraform or CI/CD pipelines, you standardise processes and consistently develop our infrastructure towards Infrastructure-as-Code.
- With contemporary monitoring and meaningful observability, you create transparency about the state of our platform, further develop alarms and dashboards, and thus lay the foundation for proactive and forward-looking operation.
- In the lifecycle management of the platform infrastructure as well as in projects of the platform team, you contribute your technical expertise and work closely with internal specialist departments, IT and suppliers.
Your profile
- A completed education in the field of computer science (apprenticeship with further training, HF/FH or equivalent) forms your professional basis. Additionally, you bring several years of practical experience as an ICT system engineer or platform engineer in the operation of on-premises infrastructures.
- Sound knowledge of virtualisation technologies such as VMware, Proxmox VE or comparable solutions as well as good knowledge of Windows Server and Linux.
- Ideally, you already have experience with container technologies such as Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift or Docker. Equally important is the willingness to further develop yourself in this dynamic environment and continuously expand your know-how.
- Automation is not an end in itself for you, but the way to more efficient and sustainable solutions. Accordingly, you have experience with CI/CD pipelines, PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform or comparable tools.
- A conscientious, precise and forward-looking way of working characterises you. You take responsibility for your topics and communicate clearly with different stakeholders. Very good German skills and understanding of Swiss German complete your profile.
