About the job
As the largest Swiss children’s book publisher based in Zurich with a turnover in the high single-digit million range, we have been publishing picture books from around the world since 1961 – from north to south. We publish illustrated stories that delight children and their parents. Many of our characters, such as The Rainbow Fish, The Little Polar Bear and the Mouse Adventures, are known worldwide. With our imprint NorthSouthBooks in New York and through licensing partners, our books have an international presence.
We are looking for an entrepreneurial and analytically skilled individual as Commercial Manager (with collective power of attorney) from 1 December 2026, who in this key role will jointly develop the company economically and lead it into the future together with the publishing management.
Your responsibilities include
- You are responsible for the overall economic management of the publishing house, finance and controlling, and ensure the quality of all commercial decisions.
- You manage the interface to the sales departments in DACH and North America and make data-driven decisions for the sales strategy.
- You lead NorthSouth Books commercially as a sparring partner for the local management.
- The further development of publishing processes, IT and data management as well as insurance and contract management are part of your duties.
- You embed compliance and risk management within the company.
- You manage the interface to the group and ensure compliance with group requirements. The consolidation of NordSüd AG is your responsibility.
Your profile
- You have a university degree in business administration or a comparable qualification.
- You have several years of commercial experience, ideally from a publishing house or a related industry.
- You combine entrepreneurial thinking and analytical work with pragmatic implementation in day-to-day operations.
- Your leadership style is characterised by clarity, appreciation and solution orientation, with which you motivate your four-person team.
- Your English is business fluent.
What we offer
- A high degree of creative freedom in an entrepreneurially important key role.
- The opportunity to further develop an internationally renowned children’s book publisher economically.
- A motivated, professional and very collegial team with an open communication culture, as well as an attractive workplace in Zurich.
