Press release
12% more trucks loaded onto the railway compared to
the previous year - for modal transfer it is
important that continuity is guaranteed until 2028
Until the end of September 2023, RAlpin AG has transported by rail through the Swiss Alps in an environmentally friendly manner almost 12% more trucks compared to the previous year. Alexander Muhm, a member of the SBB Group Management, is a new member of the Board of Directors. Nicolas Perrin remains its Chairman.
The Rolling Highway between Freiburg (D) and Novara (I) has consolidated its market position: from June to September 2023, not only were many more trucks loaded onto the railway compared to the same period in 2022, but the figures even exceed those of 2019, before the pandemic. This development justifies the National Council and the Council of States, which last March and June both voted in favor of extending this important service for modal transfer from road to rail until the end of 2028.
It is noteworthy that as much as 70% of all RAlpin AG trains arrived at their destination with less than 60 minutes of delay. Despite a slight decrease compared to 2022, due to staff shortages at RAlpin's service providers, this percentage still represents a good level in cross-border freight transport on the Rhine-Alps Rotterdam-Genoa corridor. The location of the Freiburg terminal, south of the bottleneck of the German railway in the Rhine valley, is the main reason for the overall good quality.
The shareholder SBB is now represented on the Board of Directors by Alexander Muhm, a member of the Group Management and responsible for freight transport at SBB. Dirk Stahl (BLS) and Michail
Stahlhut (Hupac) remain members of the Board of Directors. Nicolas Perrin, independent of the shareholders, will continue to lead the Board of Directors as
Chairman.
