PHBern awards around 800 teaching diplomas per year and is thus one of the major universities of teacher education in Switzerland. Equally significant is its commitment to further education and services for teachers and school leaders, as well as its practice-oriented research, development and evaluation.
The Rector is responsible for the operational management of PHBern. To fulfil his tasks, he is supported by the Secretary General and the three departments Legal Services, University Development and Innovation, as well as Communication and Marketing.
The Secretary General supports the Rector in his duties and is responsible for processing and coordinating matters of the School Board and the School Management.
Your tasks
- You support the Rector and Vice-Rector in managing the university.
- You are responsible for the management of the University Council and University Management, including preparing decision-making bases.
- You identify developments relevant to PHBern, especially in politics and administration, in good time and initiate the necessary measures.
- You maintain and manage cooperation with internal and external stakeholders, in particular with the Directorate of Education and Culture.
- You are responsible for reporting to politics and administration.
- You ensure professional internal communication at the overall university level.
- You lead the Secretary General’s office and coordinate its tasks.
- You consider the further development of structures and processes in your own area of responsibility as a matter of course.
Your profile
- University degree (Master); further training at MAS level desirable
- Affinity for staff work and lateral leadership
- Strong negotiation skills and target group-appropriate action
- Forward-thinking and resilient, combined with high initiative
- Ability to quickly familiarise yourself with new topics
- Confident expression in spoken and written language
- Willingness to exemplify and simultaneously demand high quality standards
- Sound understanding of the functioning of an educational institution
- Experience in working with politics and administration as well as in managing executive bodies
