Management Controller for the Surgery and Cardiovascular Departments
To complete its team, the Administrative Directorate of the Surgery (DC) and Cardiovascular (DCV) Departments is looking for a management controller with a workload between 80% and 100%. The starting date is scheduled for 1 February 2027.
Context
The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of the 5 Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, CHUV plays a leading role in medical care, medical research, and education.
The Surgery Department includes the thoracic surgery (lungs, pleura), visceral surgery (digestive organs), septic surgery (complex infections), maxillofacial surgery (face, jaws), urology (kidneys, bladder, prostate), ENT (nose, throat, ears), dental medicine, organ transplantation, and experimental surgery (research and innovation) services.
It also supports fundamental research activities at the Swiss and international levels. It contributes to knowledge development and the transfer of new technologies, such as robotics. It encourages teaching, quality of care, and clinical research to improve healthcare services offered to the population.
The Cardiovascular Department (DCV) brings together the angiological, cardiological, cardiac surgery, and vascular surgery services of CHUV. All actors work together to offer personalised care to patients suffering from heart and vessel diseases. The DCV is also a centre of excellence in education and research.
Mission
- You support the managers and heads of the DC and DCV services in budgetary and financial management, ensuring the monitoring of expenses, personnel and charge allocations, staffing levels, as well as the control of orders and invoices
- You monitor the clinical activity of the services, analyse significant developments, and prepare reports and management indicators to inform the decisions of the managers
- You participate in the preparation and updating of annual budgets, quarterly closings, and the establishment of financial forecasts, while contributing to the preparation of budget presentations for the Directorate
- You analyse operating costs and budget variances, identify the causes of observed variations, and contribute to the follow-up of management decisions, implementation of corrective measures, and internal controls
- You advise and support the services in their financial management processes, particularly regarding budget transfers and re-invoicing, and ensure the transmission of data necessary for activity management
- You collaborate closely with the departmental management control under the responsibility of the senior DC-DCV management controller, and take part in ad hoc analyses, cross-functional projects, and occasional colleague replacements.
Profile
- You hold a university Bachelor’s degree or HES in business management, economics, or finance, or an equivalent qualification, and ideally have additional training in management control or cost accounting
- You have 1 to 3 years of successful experience in management control, accounting, or corporate finance. Experience in the hospital, health sector, or public administration is an asset
- You demonstrate rigour, precision, and good analytical and synthetic skills, enabling you to handle financial data reliably and draw relevant conclusions
- You have good interpersonal and pedagogical skills and enjoy supporting stakeholders in understanding financial issues and finding solutions
- You work autonomously and in an organised manner, know how to manage priorities, and show proactivity in fulfilling your tasks
- You are proficient with common IT tools, notably Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Copilot, and Power BI.
