The municipality of Rümlang borders the city of Zurich to the south. To the east, it is bounded by Zurich Airport, while to the north and west, the vast landscapes of the Zurich lowlands open up. With around 8,300 inhabitants, Rümlang is developing dynamically and faces diverse construction and spatial planning challenges. Due to the upcoming retirement of our long-standing construction secretary at the end of 2027 and to strengthen our team, we are looking for a committed and professionally skilled individual as of 1 July 2027 or earlier by arrangement for the position of

Head of Building Department – Construction Secretary with Leadership Responsibility 100%

As one of the few municipalities, we review building applications entirely in-house and conduct building inspections ourselves (except for fire police). This allows you to work broadly in your field, with a high degree of personal responsibility and direct influence on the structural development of our municipality.

Your tasks

• Professional and personnel management of the building department with three employees
• Independent examination and assessment of building applications including the preparation of building law decisions
• Overall responsibility for an efficient, timely and legally compliant building permit process (including preparation and conduct of building commission meetings)
• Further development and optimisation of digital work tools
• Competent advice to builders, planners and building authorities on complex issues
• Close and solution-oriented cooperation with cantonal and municipal specialist offices
• Active participation in spatial planning issues as well as in the further development of zoning and land-use planning
• Participation in the planning commission
• Responsibility for budget planning, monitoring and involvement in the financial closing of the building department

Your profile

• Several years of experience in building application review, ideally at municipal level
• Sound knowledge of public construction and planning law
• Proven leadership experience
• Structured, independent and solution-oriented working style
• Strong decision-making ability, sense of responsibility and confident demeanour
• In-depth knowledge in the field of spatial planning is an advantage
