DevOps Engineer / DevDevOps – Private Bank – Geneva

About the job

As part of strengthening a technology team within a leading private bank based in Geneva, we are looking for a highly experienced DevOps Engineer with a strong background in Java / Spring development and a keen awareness of production, architecture, reliability, automation and security challenges.

We are seeking more than a traditional DevOps profile: the ideal candidate has a true Software Engineer culture and is capable of working on both development and application architecture issues as well as their deployment, operation and security in production.

DevOps Engineer / DevDevOps – Private Bank – Geneva

Your responsibilities

Integrated into a team composed of experienced technology profiles, you will work on critical applications and APIs for the bank’s users.

In this capacity, your main responsibilities will notably include:

• Collaborating closely with Business Analysts, Software Engineers, Technical Architects and Solution Architects to continuously evolve the architecture of applications and APIs;

• Participating in technical architecture choices and improving the reliability of microservices;

• Supporting developers on all issues related to the development, deployment and operation of applications;

• Ensuring the promotion and deployment of applications from the software factory to production;

• Maximising deployment automation while ensuring a high level of quality, stability and security;

• Designing and maintaining robust, high-performance and scalable REST APIs;

• Implementing and improving monitoring, observability and alerting solutions;

• Diagnosing production incidents, conducting Root Cause Analyses and proposing sustainable solutions;

• Developing components related to configuration and security;

• Collaborating with third-party publishers and suppliers to integrate, maintain and evolve various software components;

• Ensuring that developed solutions are fully production-ready, reliable and easily operable;

• Defining and monitoring relevant metrics to promote a data-driven approach to operations and reliability.

Desired profile

We are looking for a Senior / Expert profile with an excellent understanding of the full application lifecycle, from development to production operation.

• Strong experience in Software Engineering: development, maintenance and continuous improvement;

• Advanced expertise in Java;

• Very good command of Spring / Spring Framework;

• Excellent understanding of the JVM and the Java ecosystem;

• Extensive experience in designing, developing, versioning and maintaining REST APIs;

• Good understanding of network issues;

• Significant experience with reverse proxies, notably Apache;

• Very good command of SQL databases, notably PostgreSQL and/or Oracle;

• Practical experience with build pipelines / CI-CD;

• Experience deploying Java applications on Linux and/or Kubernetes;

• Hands-on experience with monitoring, observability and alerting tools such as Dynatrace, Grafana, Prometheus or Icinga;

• Strong sensitivity to security, availability, reliability and performance issues of applications;

• Ability to work in demanding and critical production environments;

• Excellent communication skills in French and/or English;

• Autonomy, rigour, team spirit and excellent organisational skills;

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, EPFL or equivalent university/engineering school education;

• Residence in Switzerland required from the start of the assignment.

• OpenID Connect (OIDC) / OAuth 2.0;

• TLS/SSL, certificates and encryption mechanisms;

• Network security and firewalls;

• GitHub / GitHub Workflows;

• Cloud environments, notably AWS and/or Azure;

• Docker, Kubernetes and Helm;

• Python and/or Bash scripting;

• Infrastructure as Code and automation, notably Puppet;

• XaaS approaches;

• NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Elasticsearch;

• Agile methodologies;

• Knowledge of or strong interest in banking and financial environments.

The sought-after "DevDevOps" profile

For this assignment, we are particularly looking for a profile capable of bridging development and operations.

You are above all an excellent software engineer, with strong expertise in Java/Spring and APIs, but you are also interested in what happens after development: deployment, production, monitoring, performance, network, security, automation and incident resolution.

You are able to understand an application in depth, challenge its architecture, contribute technically to its evolution and ensure its proper functioning up to production.
