As of August 1, 2027, a professorship (100%) in Social Anthropology is to be filled at the Department of Social Anthropology and Cultural Studies at the University of Bern through an open rank procedure.
The future holder of the professorship represents the subject in its full breadth and has a research focus on the anthropology of migration.
The announcement is open rank (assistant professorship with tenure track, associate professorship, or full professorship according to qualifications). In the case of an associate or full professorship, a habilitation or proof of an equivalent scientific qualification is required. In the case of an assistant professorship with tenure track, an advanced habilitation project or an equivalent qualification is required.
The future holder complements and expands the existing research focuses in the Department of Social Anthropology and teaches in the Bachelor's program in Social Anthropology and in the Master's programs MASA (Master in Social Anthropology), ATS (Anthropology of Transnationalism and the State), and CREOLE (Cultural Differences and Transnational Processes). The languages of instruction are German and English.
Participation in academic self-administration as co-director of the Department of Social Anthropology and Cultural Studies is expected. The administrative language is German. Accordingly, solid German language skills are required no later than two years after appointment. Willingness to acquire research funding is also expected.
