Job Description

To support this mission, Syngenta's hiring team is seeking an Onsite Shift Team Leader in Münchwilen, Switzerland.
Business Impact:
- Leads the shift team and holds overall responsibility for safe and timely production. Prevents operational interruptions by early detection and elimination of conflicts. Responsible for training apprentices and integrating new employees. Contributes to the strategic direction of the operation.
Purpose:
- Leads a shift team (4-6 employees) and is responsible for safe and timely production. Ensures optimal deployment of available staff.
- Responsible for training apprentices. Responsible for the integration and training of employees from other sites.
- Manufacture of chemical intermediates and active substances according to pilot plant instructions with precise documentation of observations and processes. Conduct turnover controls.
Accountabilities:
- Ensures compliance with Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) regulations and risk analyses; demonstrates exemplary safety awareness and promptly reports and proactively resolves incidents, technical faults, and unsafe actions.
- Ensures all safety and process-relevant information is available and communicated during shift handovers.
- Drives continuous improvement by proposing, reviewing, and implementing corrective and preventive measures as well as HSE action plans based on independently conducted HSE mini-audits. Creates new policies, documentation, and checklists.
- Supports shift employees in process management including PRA and defining technical measures with their expertise. Ensures assembled production systems comply with applicable regulations and guidelines.
- Participates in complex investment projects (CAPEX) and fully represents operational interests.
- Independently develops and defines annual goals for the shift in alignment with operational priorities and career development goals, conducts employee discussions, performance, and employee evaluations.
- Coaching & mentoring of operators, deputy shift leaders, and new employees.
Qualifications
- Self-leadership (intrinsic motivation) and leadership of others. Works independently and efficiently. Proactively utilises and reports free shift capacities.
- Local stakeholder management (operations staff, campaign manager, PRA leader, workshop, etc.).
- Established internal plant network (workshop, logistics, HSE, etc.).
- 5-10 years of professional experience as deputy shift leader or comparable experience.
- Excellent technical knowledge of all existing plant and infrastructure in the synthesis pilot CHMU-3146. Specialist for several special apparatus.
- Familiar with process control systems (PCS) and automation, alarm, and safety concepts as well as Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
- Established internal and external network (other sites, partner functions, HQ).
Required:
- Completed training as chemical technician or chemical and pharmaceutical technologist
- Fluent German skills (spoken & written)
- English skills (spoken & written) required
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Technical and practical expertise with flexibility in task resolution
- Proven leadership experience and strategic thinking ability
