Municipal council waives mixed-age learning
Mixed-age learning is not implemented at Primary School Wittenbach. The municipal council makes this fundamental decision based on the political situation.
The municipal council has decided not to conduct a pilot project for mixed-age learning (AdL) in Wittenbach. With this, it no longer wishes to pursue AdL as a possible element of the school model.
Political situation decisive
The introduction of mixed-age learning has developed into a controversial political discussion in Wittenbach. Opinions are entrenched, positions clearly delineated. Feedback from the second exchange with parties and two interest groups in mid-January shows that a majority of them are currently against conducting an AdL pilot project. Mainly, the fundamental added value of AdL and the cost level of a pilot project are questioned. Municipal President Peter Bruhin states: "We have engaged in the political discourse and actively involved parties and interest groups. Apparently, mixed-age learning is currently not the politically desired response to societal developments in the school sector in Wittenbach." Against this background, the municipal council has decided not to pursue the AdL topic further. The current political situation makes further work seem unproductive. The decision is therefore based on political and not educational considerations.
Focus on further development of the school
With this decision, the municipal council also wishes to provide clarity to the staff of the primary school and avoid another phase of uncertainty. Mixed-age learning is only one of several possible elements of school development. Primary School Wittenbach will continue to develop independently along the Vision 2030 and the existing future image. "A common denominator emerges from the feedback of the parties," says Bruhin. "The majority advocate for continuous development of the school." The responsible persons at the primary school will therefore continue to address current and upcoming challenges and find solutions that optimally support and challenge the children according to their needs.
