The Office for Spatial Development and Geoinformation (AREG) is responsible for spatial development policy, official surveying, and the provision of geoinformation.
The Geoinformation Department acts as a competence center on behalf of «eGovernment St.Gallen digital.» providing services for the joint geodata infrastructure of the canton of St.Gallen and the St.Gallen municipalities. It supports cantonal specialist offices in all GIS-related matters and takes the lead in the procurement and management of geobase data.
To complement our team, we are looking for a
GIS Specialist or Geoinformatics Specialist (m/f/d)
Starting: September 1, 2026, or by arrangement
Workload: 80-90%
Workplace: St.Gallen
What to expect
- Support of cantonal specialist offices in all GIS matters
- Taking on coordination and consulting tasks, gathering requirements, data modeling, and geodata management in GIS projects
- Responsibility for collection and recording, quality assurance, management and updating as well as maintenance and documentation of geodata
- Preparing the publication of geodata in web applications and web services
- Supporting cantonal specialist offices with technical analyses and visualizations
- Building and maintaining automated data interfaces and automating routine tasks
What distinguishes you
- Enthusiasm for geodata, especially in the water/environment sector
- Completed studies in geography, environmental sciences, or an equivalent qualification
- In-depth knowledge of geographic information systems
- Additional knowledge in FME, Python, and INTERLIS
- Practical professional experience
- Structured, precise, solution-oriented, yet efficient and independent working style
- Resilience, flexibility, commitment and innovation enthusiasm, reliability, enjoyment in interacting with diverse stakeholders
