As the leading police-scientific competence centre in Switzerland, the FOR is responsible, among other things, for securing evidence at crime scenes, forensic analyses in the laboratory, and reporting in court. The institute is an independent public-law institution of the Canton of Zurich and the City of Zurich. 

To complement our team, we are looking for a specialist from 1 January 2027 or by arrangement

Specialist in Forensic Media Analysis and Software Development, 100%

Your tasks are:

• Establishment and operation of the area for structured initial examination and forensic processing of image, video, audio and other media data
  
• Conducting recurring initial examinations as well as forensic analyses and authenticity checks of media data
• Extraction and preparation of data for subsequent forensic analyses as well as collection and preparation of media-related reference data in the field
• Development, integration, continuous updating and further development of in-house tools, AI applications and automated testing and processing pipelines
• Assumption, continued operation and further development of existing applications for the professional as well as the administrative and operational institute operations
• Central contact person and professional support for employees on questions regarding media and data analysis as well as AI-supported procedures. Occasional support with general IT issues if required
• Participation in forensic cases as well as preparation of professionally sound reports and expert opinions
• Optimisation of forensic workflows as well as administrative and operational institute processes also outside your own specialist area. Leading or participating in smaller projects
• Presentation of developments, services and topics of forensic media analysis at external specialist and further training events

Your profile:

• University degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, computer vision, data science, bioinformatics or a comparable field (doctorate advantageous)
• Several years of relevant professional or research experience as well as proven experience in the processing and analysis of image and video data
• Sound knowledge of media formats, codecs and containers, compression methods and the technical characteristics of digital image, video and audio data
• Experience in professional software development as well as in building robust testing and processing pipelines
• Knowledge in computer vision and AI, experience in forensic analysis or authenticity verification of media data is an advantage
• Experience in scientific or forensic method validation
• High self-motivation and resilience, especially when dealing with distressing media material
• Flexibility and willingness to reliably take on innovative development tasks as well as recurring routine work and tasks outside the core area
• Very good German skills in spoken and written form, very good English skills, additional languages advantageous
