"Enforcement tailored to measure" is our motto at the Thorberg Correctional Facility. We enforce sanctions on 180 men from over 40 nations in closed custody. Our 140 employees dedicate themselves daily to the reintegration of offenders into society, thereby making an important contribution to public safety. In eleven workshops, we lead and support the inmates according to work-pedagogical principles. Our programmes in the areas of work, therapy, education, sport and leisure are consistently aimed at risk reduction and the social integration of the inmates.

The health service of the JVA is responsible as an outpatient clinic for professional assessment, triage, advice and care of the inmates in health matters. For the management of our health service, we are looking for a committed and strong leadership personality.

Your tasks

• You will take over the personnel, professional, organisational and financial management of the health service with a team of five specialists.
• You actively drive the organisational development of the health service forward, question existing processes and are open to new approaches and innovative solutions.
• Together with your team, you ensure the medical basic care of the inmates. This includes in particular the admission assessments, ongoing health care and emergency care.
• You are responsible for the organisation and quality assurance of medical procedures, especially medication management, medical documentation and compliance with applicable hygiene and safety regulations.
• You coordinate cooperation with doctors, psychotherapeutic specialists, the pharmacist and other external medical service providers as well as health services of other enforcement institutions.
• You promote interdisciplinary collaboration within JVA Thorberg and contribute to the further development of concepts, processes and projects.
• You work in the operational day-to-day business of the health service as needed and take on on-call duties in rotation.
• You promote the professional and personal development of your employees and ensure personnel deployment and on-call planning.

Your profile

• You have a completed nursing education at tertiary level (HF/FH/Uni) as well as several years of professional experience, ideally in somatic and psychiatric care. A master’s degree in nursing science with the qualification as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) is an advantage.
• You bring proven leadership experience and ideally have corresponding leadership training.
• You are a resilient, confident and communicative personality with pronounced organisational skills and an independent, solution-oriented working style.
• You know how to lead and promote employees and also make clear decisions in demanding situations.
• You are interested in working with inmates of different cultural backgrounds. A professional approach to closeness and distance is natural for you.
• You enjoy interdisciplinary work and have a high quality and sense of responsibility.
• You are proficient in German, both spoken and written. Knowledge of French and English is an advantage.
• You are skilled in using digital applications and medical documentation systems.

About the Office for Correctional Services

The Office for Correctional Services (AJV) is responsible within the Security Directorate of the Canton of Bern (SID) for open and closed penal and measure enforcement for adults and juveniles, with around 1000 employees. To fulfil this task, the office has four concordat correctional facilities, four regional prisons, the surveillance station at Inselspital, the detention control centre as well as probation and enforcement services at its disposal.
