Senior M365 DevOps Engineer (a)
- 14 September 2026
- 80 – 100%
- Permanent position
- German (Intermediate)
About the job
Microsoft 365 is the digital backbone of collaboration in the cantonal administration and schools of the Canton of Lucerne. We are rebuilding the operation of this corporate platform as our own team and are gradually taking it over from an external partner. As a DevOps Engineer M365, you build and operate this platform: you convert manual configurations into Configuration as Code, get to the root of technical problems, and make the operation auditable.
Your tasks
- You operate the M365 platform (Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Exchange Online, etc.) throughout its entire lifecycle. In 2nd and 3rd level support, you are the point of contact who finds causes and permanently resolves them.
- You implement governance technically: Teams, meeting and app policies, permission and sharing models, guest access and its lifecycle, sensitivity labels and retention. Every setting is justified, documented and auditable.
- You bring the platform from click management to Configuration as Code: configuration is versioned in the repository, changes run through pipelines (Azure DevOps, scripting, Microsoft Graph), deviations are automatically detected and reported.
- You assess new Microsoft features and requests from departments technically, build the prerequisites (for example for Copilot Chat or Teams transcription) and roll them out in stages with the Product Owner.
- You ensure visibility: monitoring, logging, Secure Score and alignment with security baselines such as the CIS Benchmark, so that we see deviations before users report them.
- You plan and carry out migrations technically, for example SharePoint On-Prem migration to the cloud and consolidation of Teams rooms and accounts from other tenants.
Your profile
- Completed education in computer science (FA, HF, FH or university) and several years of experience in engineering and operating Microsoft 365 in an enterprise environment.
- Substance on the platform: Teams, meeting and app policies, permission and sharing model in SharePoint Online and OneDrive, Entra ID with groups, guest access and Conditional Access, Exchange Online, Purview with labels and retention, prerequisites for Copilot.
- Automation is your standard, not the exception: you are proficient in scripting and Microsoft Graph, keep configuration versioned, and have built pipelines in Azure DevOps or similar yourself. You have once converted a click-managed environment into code.
- You find causes instead of symptoms: incident and problem analysis with audit logs, sign-in logs and message trace, clean change procedures with rollback.
- Experience with migrations (SharePoint On-Prem to Online, tenant to tenant, tools like ShareGate) is an advantage.
- Experience in agile setups (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe): you work from a backlog, estimate efforts correctly and make visible what you are working on.
- Experience in public administration or a regulated environment is an advantage. You understand data protection and governance as a quality feature, not as a brake.
- You document what you build and share your knowledge within the team.
