About the job
Lecture Hall Supporter with Evening Duty Component (m/f/d)
To support research and teaching, the IT Services of ETH Zurich operate as a service organisation within a large and complex IT environment. We offer the members of ETH Zurich high-quality, flexible, and scalable IT services, thereby supporting them in competing with the best universities in the world.
Our Multimedia Technologies group is responsible for AV technical support for teaching. For this purpose, we develop, implement, and maintain the necessary infrastructure in the lecture halls and seminar rooms of ETH Zurich and operate the services built upon it.
Project Background
From 1 December 2026 or by agreement, we are looking to strengthen our team with a lecture hall supporter with an evening duty component (m/f/d).
Job Description
As part of our multimedia support team, you will work at the Zurich Centre location (University Quarter) in a committed and collegial environment. Together, we ensure that our audio-video systems function reliably and that teaching operations run smoothly.
With your enthusiasm for multimedia technology, you support our users in their daily activities, assist with technical questions, and collaboratively find suitable solutions within the team. You take on support tasks, participate in maintenance work on the AV installations, and actively contribute your expertise.
In the event of technical faults, you remain calm and proceed in a structured manner. You analyse problems, resolve them independently, or provide a replacement solution to the teaching operations within the agreed response times.
Besides support, you maintain engaged contact with ETH members at our multimedia lending counter and assist with simple video conferences. Your involvement also supports the team in the exciting area of our multimedia renovation projects or through the implementation of smaller, interesting projects.
You enjoy working in the evening hours (approximately half the time) and appreciate direct contact during on-site service. During the semester (mid-February to end of May and mid-September to December), we are available to our users until 8 pm, and during semester breaks until 6 pm. In return, you benefit from well-plannable working hours and the possibility to take most of your holidays during the semester breaks.
Profile
- Training as an event specialist EFZ, multimedia electronics technician EFZ, or equivalent knowledge as a lateral entrant
- Several years of practical experience in technical support of audio-video installations
- Good basic knowledge of network technology, as well as good user knowledge of Windows and MacOS operating systems
- Knowledge of common audio and video signal technology, preferably also in AV over IP technologies
- Strong analytical and technical thinking for systematic troubleshooting of technical problems
- Proactive, reliable, and careful working style
- High degree of independence and personal responsibility, strong customer and service orientation
- Communicative, proactive team player who enjoys sharing knowledge and benefiting from colleagues’ experiences
- Joy and motivation to stay technologically up to date and proactively deepen expertise in the field
- Good oral and written communication skills in German and English
