are seeking applications for the position of
Head of the Division of Infectious diseases at the Regional Hospital of Lugano; Tenured Professor of Infectious diseases at the Università della Svizzera italiana (100%)
The successful applicant will hold the positions of:
- Head, Division of Infectious diseases at the Regional Hospital of Lugano;
- Tenured Professor of Infectious diseases at the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences of the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), with responsibility for organizing the theoretical and clinical teaching of infectious diseases within the human medicine training programs and for developing research projects in this field.
Essential criteria
- postgraduate qualification in infectious diseases in accordance with Art. 20 and 21 of the Federal Law on University Medical Professions (LPMed). For foreign qualifications, Mebeko recognition is required before starting work at the EOC;
- academic accreditation to teach infectious diseases at a Swiss or foreign university;
- solid clinical and managerial experience in infectious diseases acquired in a senior medical role at a university hospital, cantonal hospital, or equivalent foreign institution, with knowledge in epidemiology, infection prevention, and control in a hospital setting;
- ability to manage quality programs and clinical governance for the service's staff;
- willingness to collaborate with a well-established team of physicians active in various areas of infectious diseases, both at the Lugano site and other EOC sites, to continue its development and maintain clinical excellence;
- willingness to maintain and develop a culture of continuous improvement and value optimization for the patient;
- experience in promoting multidisciplinary clinical collaboration to achieve the overall objectives of the hospital;
- willingness to continue and strengthen collaboration with local physicians;
- experience in clinical and translational research and managing research programs (clinical, translational, and/or fundamental);
- experience in acquiring and obtaining competitive research funding at the national and international level in the field of infectious diseases;
- a strong track record of high-quality scientific publications in the field of infectious diseases;
- a network of collaborations in national and international research projects;
- commitment to developing a research activity that fosters the academic progression of collaborators with experience in developing strategies to enhance clinical-scientific competencies in infectious diseases;
- interest and willingness to develop collaborations with existing Institutes and services, particularly with the Institute of Research in Biomedicine (IRB, www.irb.usi.ch) for basic and translational studies, and with the Clinical Trial Unit EOC for clinical studies;
- willingness to contribute and promote Ticino’s involvement in national and international initiatives/networks in the field of infectious diseases (e.g., Swiss HIV cohort study, ...);
- solid experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and willingness to collaborate with the USI Faculty of Biomedical Sciences to implement study programs and develop research. In particular, willingness to supervise doctoral theses;
- experience and willingness to contribute to national and international research projects in the field of infectious diseases, promoting Ticino’s involvement in global initiatives and networks;
- proficiency in Italian, English, and preferably another national language.

- involvement in the board of directors of the EOC Department of Medicine;
- the appointment as tenured professor in accordance with the University Statute and inclusion in the dynamic Faculty of Biomedical Sciences of USI;
- active participation in the Master's in human medicine of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences of USI.
