What to expect:

• You will lead the research division strategically and operationally and bear responsibility for the professional and personnel management of your team.
• You will develop a forward-looking research and publication strategy and an effective research management in close collaboration with universities and many other network partners.
• Together with the department management, you will contribute to the establishment and consolidation of Archaeology Baselland as a centre of expertise and research hub.
• You will lead and accompany research projects on findings and discoveries from all epochs throughout the canton area as well as within the perimeter of the Roman town Augusta Raurica.
• You will develop, implement and ensure scientific standards within Archaeology Baselland.
• You will actively support and promote young researchers, for example by supervising theses and overseeing internships.
• You will coordinate and personally participate in communicating our research results through specialist lectures, scientific publications or preparation for publication via our communication channels.
• You will actively support the ongoing change process in the Archaeology Baselland department and contribute your professional research perspective to the further development of the organisation, processes and structures.

What you bring with you:

• You have a completed doctorate in archaeology with proven research activity and a solid publication portfolio (including peer-reviewed articles).
• Your pronounced competence in the evaluation of findings and discoveries as well as confident use of digital tools, especially GIS and databases, has already been demonstrated in your previous roles.
• You bring leadership experience in managing teams and projects, including budget and resource responsibility, as well as strong change management skills.
• You have experience in supervising and promoting young researchers.
• You have experience in communicating research results both to a scientific specialist audience and to the general public.
• You have the ability to prepare current research content for museum education professionals and a strong willingness to support the public operations of the Roman town Augusta Raurica in effectively conveying archaeological topics to a broad audience.
• You are familiar with the Swiss archaeological research landscape as well as the local archaeological and historical sources.
• You possess the ability to actively and systematically expand and maintain cooperation and network relationships with external partners and institutions.

Office for Culture

"Archaeology Baselland" is a newly formed department of the Office for Culture of the Canton of Basel-Landschaft. As a cantonal specialist office, it is responsible for the protection and research of archaeological sites, zones and movable objects within the canton area. The department is being created as part of the organisational development of the Office for Culture: the archaeological specialist areas and collections of the previous main departments "Archaeology and Museum Baselland" and "Augusta Raurica" are being brought together organisationally within it.
