Job Description
The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva benefits from an enriching multicultural dynamic to which it contributes through its influence within the framework of its mandates: teaching, research and its partnership with the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG).
The Department of Medicine (DEMED) of the Faculty of Medicine has the mission to develop knowledge primarily focused on clinical and translational research in specialised fields of medicine and in the service of patients.
To lead its team in the research field of bone cells, bone metabolism and osteoporosis, and specifically in research on the pathophysiological mechanisms linking bone fragility to diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, we are looking for a:
Scientific Collaborator 2
Within their area of specialisation and as part of a research group, they will have the following tasks:
- Continue and develop translational research projects in the field of bone diseases.
- Apply for research funds, including competitive ones (SNSF).
- Set up seminars/training sessions for users and students with a view to education and technology transfer.
- Ensure the administrative management related to the aforementioned tasks.
- Participate in all working groups, conferences and seminars in their field of specialisation and maintain technological watch.
- Be responsible for animal experimentation for the laboratory (qualification level LTK, module 2).
- Manage laboratory data (ZENODO, YARETA).
- Be a tutor for Problem-Based Learning (PBL) for second-year medical students and teach courses to first-year students.
- Participate in teaching the optional molecular endocrinology course at the Faculty of Science.
- Supervise master’s and PhD / MD-PhD students in the laboratory.
Required title and skills
- Doctorate in Sciences (PhD), specialising in biology or equivalent, for at least 5 years.
- Extensive experience in this specific field.
- Proven experience in cell culture, molecular biology, intracellular signalling, transgenic mice, and rodent skeletal phenotyping, including immunohistochemistry and histomorphometry.
- Proficiency with devices measuring bone parameters, notably micro-CT, fluorescence microscopy, and biomechanics.
- Demonstrated autonomy in conducting research to lead a major scientific project.
- Ability to lead a team and collaborate with other research groups.
- Ability to write research projects.
- Experience in undergraduate teaching in the field.
- Ability to communicate effectively in French and English, both written and oral (min. B2).
