Company description
With more than 13,000 employees representing 160 professions, the Geneva University Hospitals are a reference institution at the national and international level. To learn more about our institution, take a few minutes to consult our 2025 retrospective by clicking here.
The Internal Audit Directorate (IAD) of HUG fulfils two categories of missions: assurance missions (audit missions) and advisory missions.
As part of its assurance missions, the Internal Audit Directorate provides the Audit Committee with an audit report including an objective assessment of an entity, a process, a system or other areas in order to form an opinion or conclusions.
It adds value to the Institution by taking into account the strategy, objectives and risks, proposes ways to improve governance, risk management and control processes, and provides relevant assurance with objectivity. The scope and nature of the work execution are determined by this directorate.
The advisory missions aim to improve the functioning of HUG. They concern the institution's governance processes, risk management and internal control. When carrying out an advisory mission, the internal auditor demonstrates objectivity and assumes no managerial responsibility in the activity concerned nor interferes with its prerogatives.
Attached to the Chair of the Board of Directors, in its capacity as Chair of the Audit Committee, the Internal Audit Directorate is responsible for establishing internal audit policies, defining and setting the general content of its audit and advisory activities.
It carries out the annual planning of audit missions, which requires the approval of the Audit Committee, their implementation and the coordination of work related to these missions and specific missions decided by the Audit Committee or with its approval.
It ensures the completion of independent and systematic audits of processes to assess their effectiveness in view of economic objectives and risks.
It regularly informs the Audit Committee of the progress of ongoing audits according to the planned deadlines.
The Internal Audit Directorate prepares the annual activity report which is submitted to the Audit Committee and then, after review and approval, communicated to the Board of Directors.
It coordinates risk management activities and the internal control system, the operational implementation of which is the responsibility of the referents of the Departments and Directorates.
