Technical Manager of Major Projects

About the job

In this key role, you lead an interdisciplinary project team and take responsibility for the overall technical integration of large strategic and complex projects in the food industry, generally exceeding CHF 150 million. This includes new plants, site developments as well as demanding transformation and extension projects.

What you accomplish

• You take overall responsibility for the technical planning and successful execution of large complex projects with a significant construction component, starting from around CHF 150 million.
• You lead and coordinate an interdisciplinary project team and ensure the functional management of sub-project managers.
• You manage the relevant interfaces and continuously keep costs, deadlines, quality, resources and risks under control.
• You develop solid, risk-based decision-making foundations for the project clients, the Steering Committee and Management.
• In collaboration with the Operations, Production, Engineering, Construction, Logistics, Utilities, Automation and IT teams, you define and coordinate technical requirements.
• You develop and evaluate different variants of technical and economic solutions, then derive decisions and recommendations for the next steps.
• You support tenders, awards and contract negotiations as well as authorisation and approval procedures.
• From commissioning to acceptance, including documentation and handover to operations, you ensure the proper completion of the project.

What you bring

• Education: Completed studies (Uni/VET, University of Applied Sciences, Higher Education)
• Specialisation: for example in mechanical engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering or food technology. Additional training in project management is an advantage.
• Professional experience: Proven experience in managing large complex projects with a significant construction component, with a budget responsibility exceeding CHF 150 million in an industrial environment, ideally in the food industry.
• Cost, schedule, risk, quality, contract and claims management are an integral part of your daily project work.
• You understand production processes and related supply chains and can assess technical and operational interactions as a whole.
• You demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit, maintain an overview even in complex projects and successfully unite different specialised areas and interests.
• You convince with your negotiation skills, your ability to assert yourself and your confidence in managing demanding situations and divergent interests.
• You work independently, in a structured and solution-oriented manner, and willingly take on responsibilities.
