About the job
Your new role
You will lead the building documentation of the city of St.Gallen and, together with a colleague, ensure a contemporary, high-quality, and sustainable building documentation. You will further develop processes and standards, act as a point of contact for internal and external clients, and ensure efficient filing as well as traceability of all relevant building data. With your expertise, you will significantly contribute to the transparency, legal certainty, and preservation of the city’s architectural heritage.
This position is for you if
- You have a tertiary-level qualification (or further training) in information and documentation sciences, architecture, or cultural or art history, and ideally already have professional experience in public administration (construction, archiving, records management, or similar);
- You wish to apply your strong social skills in goal-oriented and cooperative exchanges with our internal and external stakeholders;
- You enjoy possibly sharing your expertise in public relations;
- You work independently, service- and solution-oriented;
- You are interested in planning and construction topics of a larger Swiss city and have good local knowledge of the city of St.Gallen;
- You enjoy and find it easy to interact with people regardless of task, function, or hierarchy.

Your department
The staff unit is the hub for the political affairs of the Directorate of Planning and Construction and thus ensures the overall coordination of urban development, landscape, and traffic planning. It is responsible for political and financial aspects and manages the central legal service for the specialist departments of the Directorate. The directorate secretariat integrates building documentation, construction accounting, and the telephone switchboard. The staff unit supports and advises the director and the departments of the Directorate of Planning and Construction on legal and procedural matters, prepares submissions for the city council and city parliament. Finally, the staff unit runs the secretariat for the parliamentary property and construction commission (LBK).
Building documentation is the "memory" of the city for construction matters. It archives documents related to all buildings within the city area, as well as files on road construction and general documents of the Directorate of Planning and Construction. It also manages all public plan inspections.
