Information about eyelid surgery
The surgery is performed on an outpatient basis and under local anaesthesia in the operating theatre of the Vista Alpina Eye Clinic in Visp. An essential prerequisite for the surgical procedure is that any blood-thinning medications are discontinued well in advance. Your Vista Alpina ophthalmologist will be happy to advise you in detail.
Drooping / sagging eyelids (blepharochalasis)
The human eyelid skin is extremely thin. It becomes even thinner and loses elasticity with increasing age. In the upper eyelid, the slack skin folds forward and downward at the same time.
This results in so-called drooping or sagging eyelids. Excess tissue (skin, underlying muscle tissue and often also fat tissue) is removed by means of eyelid tightening (blepharoplasty).
As a result, the actual shape of the eye reappears, and the patient looks fresh and rested. The Vista Alpina Eye Clinic makes every effort to preserve the patient’s originally natural appearance of the eye area.
Note on drooping / sagging eyelids
We explicitly point out that we do not practise artificially looking eye surgery à la Hollywood. Our goal is to make the patient look fresher and more rested thanks to the procedure. Most procedures are performed for aesthetic reasons and are not covered by health insurance. In certain cases, the drooping eyelids are so pronounced that there is a severe restriction of the field of vision. In these cases, your treating ophthalmologist will first submit an application for full cost coverage by the health insurance. The treatment takes only about 60 minutes for both eyes.
In the hours and days after the procedure, it is important to regularly cool the eye so that swelling and bleeding heal quickly. The stitches are removed one week after the operation. At this time, the eye is already significantly less swollen and the external appearance largely restored.
