Scientific Employee Planning in the Forest

Focus: "Forest Planning (WEP) & Forest Inventory"

As an employee of the Planning in the Forest section, you support the head of the Planning in the Forest section and help shape the future of the forest. Through forward-looking planning, you create the basis for sustainable care and responsible management of the Zurich forests.

Tasks

• Supports the section head in the development and implementation of strategies, concepts of forest planning as well as in coordination with other specialist planning
• Leads, accompanies or works on projects in the areas of forest development planning, forest inventories and sustainability controls
• Develops planning methods, cantonal standards together with the section head, the person responsible for the forest inventory and the forestry districts and provides the corresponding documents
• Supports the person responsible for the forest inventory: organizes, accompanies forest inventories and advises software users; performs data and simple GIS analyses and prepares the results from the regional forest inventory; ensures data quality and technical support
• Develops, maintains evaluation and planning tools (SQL, Python and QML scripts) for the forest inventory and coordinates with developers

Profile

• University degree in forestry sciences
• Expertise, preferably in the areas of forestry planning procedures and forest inventory
• Database (PostgreSQL) and programming skills preferably in SQL, Python and QML as well as GIS knowledge (QGIS, ArcGIS Pro) are an advantage
• Committed and team-oriented personality with a networked and solution-oriented mindset
• German as a native language or at a comparable level and good knowledge of English
