The  Department of Primary Care Medicine  (DMPR) has the societal mission to provide access to quality healthcare for all through local medicine, to ensure the management of minor medical and surgical emergencies, to promote prevention among citizens, to provide medical knowledge for judicial investigations, and to promote the health of travellers.

The position aims to support the missions of the DMCPR and the HUG in developing a programme to better understand and reduce social inequalities in access to care and in care pathways. This role is set within a rich and complex professional environment, marked by great cultural and linguistic diversity, influencing perceptions of the body, health, illness, and citizenship.

Job Description

Within the context of the DMCPR promoting access to care for all, especially vulnerable populations (undocumented, migrants, detainees, etc.), your mission is to coordinate and support aspects of intercultural communication.

You accompany and support teams facing situations of intercultural communication and complex care.

You identify linguistic needs, implement appropriate strategies (professional interpreters, translation tools, etc.) and ensure institutional coordination with interpreting service providers.

You must also develop projects and practical tools aimed at improving access to care. In this regard, you lead advisory, analysis, and development projects and contribute to strengthening the skills of HUG professionals on issues related to linguistic and cultural diversity.

You are also called upon to conduct qualitative research (ethnographies, observations, interviews) on social health inequalities and to disseminate results through publications, conferences, symposia, etc.

In the field of training, you participate in the initial and continuing education of health professionals and university teaching, notably by developing innovative educational tools.

Finally, you autonomously provide quality medical services, both clinically, administratively, and organisationally.

Qualifications

To hold this position, you must have a federal medical diploma or an equivalent title recognised by the Federal Commission of Medical Professions (MEBEKO) and have the right to practice in the canton of Geneva.

A supplementary Master’s degree in social sciences is required.

You must demonstrate experience in practising medicine with vulnerable populations and confirmed expertise in cultural and linguistic diversity, as well as communication in a multicultural context.

Proven experience in qualitative research with these populations (notably through ethnographic approaches, interviews, and observation) is essential, as is the ability to conduct independent and interprofessional research.
