The Creative Preparatory Course at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts offers orientation and a solid foundation for further study and training paths in the fields of design, film and art. Its modular structure opens up a flexible learning path and creates space for observation, experimentation and perspective shifts. Alongside craft and technical skills, the development of an individual creative and artistic language as well as interdisciplinary thinking are central. In exchange with fellow students and lecturers, students thus lay the foundation for a curious, critical and contemporary creative and artistic practice.
For the Creative Preparatory Course, we are looking for a lecturer for design with module responsibility 35% – 45% from 1 August 2027:
Lecturer for Design with Module Responsibility 35% – 45%
Your tasks
We are looking for a personality with an independent design practice as well as teaching experience in product and industrial design in the tension field of object, space, human and environment. In your practice, you combine creative, technical and social issues into sustainable and innovative design concepts. You have workshop experience, work interdisciplinarily and combine digital design processes with traditional manufacturing and material techniques. The preparatory course prepares students for studies, including in the degree programme Product and Industrial Design (Textile Design, Object Design, Spatial Design, Creative Transformation).
As a lecturer
- Development and implementation of teaching formats to convey conceptual, methodological and technical fundamentals of design processes including digital technologies/AI as well as craft techniques.
- Didactically sound support of work processes, from research through concept development to presentation.
- Support of students in developing a creative position and language.
- Promotion of a professionally informed, sustainable and experimental design practice and responsible handling of materials and resources.
- Supervision and mentoring of students in the portfolio process.
As module leader
- Overall responsibility for the content, organisational and personnel planning, implementation and further development of the module according to specifications.
- Lateral leadership of lecturers and teaching staff working in the module; in particular ensuring communication, promoting collaboration and coordinating work assignments. Recruitment of teaching staff in consultation with the co-leadership.
- Planning and allocation of resources and materials within the module.
- Ensuring the didactic quality and topicality of teaching. Quality assurance and further development of the module, including feedback to lecturers.
- Participation in the professional, organisational and personnel development of the Creative Preparatory Course.
- Representation of the subject area Product and Industrial Design in the core team and within the Department of Design Film Art.
- Active participation in exchange, planning, evaluation and development bodies and involvement in strategic issues.
Your profile
- You have a completed university degree (Master or Diploma) in the field of Product and Industrial Design (Textile Design, Object Design, Spatial Design).
- You have an independent design practice with professional experience in the field of transformation or process design.
- You know the Swiss design scene, are visible in it and well networked.
- You have teaching experience at a university or a creative preparatory course. A certificate in university didactics can be obtained as part of the employment.
- You have strong methodological skills and are familiar with current circular design processes.
- You are proficient in handling digital design and visualisation tools (e.g. Onshape, SolidWorks, Rhino, KeyShot, Figma, Adobe CC) as well as current AI applications.
- You have experience in construction, prototyping and workshop processes with various materials. You master freehand as well as technical drawing.
- You are a communicative and reliable personality with strong cooperation and social skills.
- You think and work interdisciplinarily and enjoy team-oriented collaboration.
- You have organisational skills and experience in independently planning and implementing projects and teaching units.
- You have very good German language skills.
