Biology Laboratory Technician
The Nanomaterials in Health department at Empa in St. Gallen is a highly motivated team of biologists and chemists dedicated to understanding and controlling interactions between particles and biological systems. For this, we use cell-based models that are clinically and diagnostically relevant. These allow us to develop safe and functional solutions in the biomedical field.
Your tasks
As a biology laboratory technician, you are part of our technician team and take responsibility for an assigned laboratory area. The main tasks are as follows:
- Together with our scientists, you advance exciting and interdisciplinary projects in the field of nanomaterial – cell/tissue interactions
- You use, improve, and develop complex biological in vitro models and methods
- Maintenance and servicing of the laboratory infrastructure and the department's ordering system are your responsibility
- As an experienced laboratory technician, you are involved in the training of our apprentices and students
Your profile
You are a committed individual with a practice-oriented education who enthusiastically contributes to our international, dynamic environment and meets the following criteria:
- Completed vocational training as a biology laboratory technician, ideally with professional experience
- Solid knowledge in cell and molecular biology as well as experience handling cells and complex in vitro models
- Independent, reliable, and goal-oriented working style
- Enjoyment in training apprentices and students
- Interest in taking responsibility within the team, tackling new tasks, and acquiring the necessary professional knowledge
- Open and communicative personality who enjoys working in a multidisciplinary environment
- Good oral and written skills in German and English as well as proficient computer user skills (MS Office)
- Experience in immunostaining and microscopy as well as basics of "omics" technologies and immunology is desirable
