Senior Embedded Software Engineer / Architect (Medical)

At our development centre in Wil SG, we realise products for medium and large quantities and develop technologies for globally leading, future-oriented companies.

To support our Embedded Software team in the development of medical devices and in-vitro diagnostics as well as for general tasks in the field of software and firmware development, we are looking for you as a Senior Embedded Software Engineer.

Area of activity

As a goal-oriented "Technical Leader" with deep professional expertise, you oversee the development and implementation of firmware and software in the regulated environment for medical technology or industrial applications. As an experienced team member, you are responsible for the implementation and deployment of firmware and software in the required quality and according to the development process.

You work in a team of highly qualified software engineers, embedded electronics specialists, and firmware developers. Your motivation and structured working style enable you to efficiently implement technological solutions. You also enjoy sharing your broad knowledge and experience in software development "best practices" with your colleagues and help to improve code quality. You support project management tasks such as planning, effort estimation, system reviews, etc. with your experience.

You enjoy customer contact on technical topics and occasionally take on a software sub-project leader role in projects, depending on interest.

Your responsibilities include:

• Supporting the project manager in planning firmware/software development projects and in negotiations with clients
• Participating in projects as a Senior Engineer / Architect for embedded firmware/software
• Coordinating and communicating internally as well as with customers on a technical level
• Monitoring the processes and workflows of firmware/software development projects
• Concept, design, and code reviews within the project team and coaching junior software developers
• Implementing new technologies and methods of execution

Requirements

• Degree in a technical university (FH/ETH) and several years of experience in embedded software/firmware development
• Good knowledge of development "best practices" and sensitivity to software quality
• Several years of experience in project work and collaboration
• Proficient in C / C++ and another programming language (Rust, Python, Go, Ruby, etc.) and familiar with object-oriented principles
• Curious and always seeking new ways to improve and expand your efficiency and skills
• Well acquainted with the latest ITC technologies in embedded, connectivity, IoT areas and their implementation methods
• Interest in developing in a regulated environment (IEC 62304)
• Characterised by structured and pragmatic working methods
• Confident communication in German and good English skills

A plus is:

• Expertise in medical software and firmware (IEC 62304)
• Some experience in agile development with hardware
• Experience in data analytics, computer vision or machine learning, ideally also on microcontrollers
• Experience with control engineering
• Experience with Linux
• Proficient with automated tools (Gitlab CI, Conan, SonarQube, ...)
• Experience with AI-supported software development
• Experience in customer contact and willingness to occasionally take on (software sub-) project leader tasks
