In the Facility Services Department at ETH Zurich, we create the optimal conditions for teaching, research and technology transfer. We maintain the buildings and ensure the energy and media supply as well as the technical and infrastructural building management of all rooms used by ETH Zurich.

For the Hönggerberg site, we are looking for a caretaker (m/f/d) in the HI building area to start immediately or by arrangement.

Job Description

In this versatile position, you support the management of infrastructural building management in daily operations and contribute significantly to ensuring that our buildings are operated smoothly, efficiently and user-oriented.

You independently carry out repairs, perform inspections and maintenance, and are the first point of contact for users and external service providers. You identify optimisation potentials and actively contribute your ideas.

Your tasks include minor repair and maintenance work in the areas of painting, carpentry, plumbing and assembly. You also regularly inspect the building infrastructure, detect defects early and initiate the necessary measures. You are also responsible for the setup and dismantling of events, advise users and support them in operating multimedia technology.

Implementing the waste disposal concept and ensuring a high cleaning quality are also part of your responsibilities. You ensure this both through your own efforts and by coordinating external service providers.

As an important interface between technology, service providers and users, you ensure high service quality and customer satisfaction. You accompany events, coordinate deployments and take responsibility for smooth processes. In addition, you perform on-call duties and take on tasks in shift work, such as opening and closing buildings.

You process tickets in the CAFM system, obtain quotes and coordinate or accompany external specialists during their assignments. In close cooperation with technical building management, you support first interventions as well as maintenance work on building services systems. You also contribute to budgeting and support the creation and maintenance of the maintenance plan.

You also play a central role in safety: you ensure personal and operational safety, manage fire alarm systems and security areas, respond to alarms, provide first aid in emergencies and support the fire alarm and evacuation team.

In your role as a practical trainer, you also accompany and support apprentices in building services in their daily work and ensure a professionally sound and practice-oriented training.

Profile

• Completed vocational training as a building services specialist EFZ or equivalent training, e.g. as a certified caretaker or equivalent further training
• At least 5 years of professional experience in a comparable role
• Good knowledge in building services (e.g. assembly, carpentry, painting, plumbing work)
• Good MS Office and CAFM skills as well as experience with audio, video and presentation technology
• Very good German and good English skills
• Sense of responsibility, flexibility as well as an independent and structured way of working
• Strong communication skills, ability to work in a team and enjoyment of working with different stakeholders
• Openness to innovations and new technologies
• Willingness to perform on-call duties and work outside regular hours
• Experience and enjoyment in practically supporting apprentices in the building services profession
