Deputy Head of Department Culture / Head of Cultural Heritage

Taking responsibility: In close collaboration with the management and executive board, you share responsibility for the strategic and content planning and implementation of Basel's cultural promotion policy. You maintain regular contact with various stakeholders from cultural institutions, society, and politics.

Ensuring control: As deputy head, you supervise two offices within the Culture Division and are responsible for monitoring target agreements. You are involved in and share responsibility for the further development of governance processes.

Strengthening cultural heritage: As Head of Cultural Heritage, you lead the specialist areas of museums, cultural property protection, and cultural construction projects. Together with your team, you secure the foundations for the preservation and communication of cultural heritage in the canton of Basel-Stadt.

Shaping networking: You are a member of the executive board, represent the division in the management of cultural construction projects as well as in various external committees and commissions at regional and national levels. You undertake representative and communicative appearances.

Experience: You have several years of professional experience in cultural care and are familiar with cultural policy processes. Furthermore, you possess proven leadership experience and negotiation skills, know the Basel cultural landscape, and approach new cultural developments with openness and interest. Ideally, you are familiar with administrative processes and bring experience in managing digital transformation.

Personality: You think entrepreneurially, can translate goals into strategies, and express yourself confidently and multilingual both orally and in writing. You are an integral, mediating, and resilient personality, flexible with your time, and willing to reside in the canton of Basel-Stadt.

Education: You hold a completed university degree in a cultural studies or economic sciences subject and have furthered your education in the other field. Knowledge of public governance or NPO governance rounds off your profile. Non-formal or informal educational paths are equally considered.

The Culture Division of the Presidential Department of Basel-Stadt, with its seven offices, is responsible for cantonal cultural promotion. It supports cultural institutions and projects as well as freelance artists and promotes professional cultural creation and cultural mediation across all sectors. It aligns itself with the priorities of the cultural policy of the Government Council. The diverse work of the Culture Division serves to make Basel a liveable city with varied cultural creation.
