The Clinic of Neonatology of Lausanne which is the largest Unit in Switzerland (40 beds) opens 1 position for neonatal fellow (chef.fe de clinique adjoint) or junior neonatologist (chef.fe de clinique) in November 2026 or Mai 2027, for 12 to 24 months.
Contexte
The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of five Swiss university hospitals. Through its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and the EPFL, CHUV plays a leading role in the areas of medical care, medical research and training.
The Clinic of Neonatology at CHUV is the largest neonatal unit in Switzerland, with 40 beds, more than 900 newborn patients cared for each year, and over 3000 deliveries annually. We provide highly specialized neonatal care in a stimulating academic environment, offering excellent opportunities for professional development, teaching, and research.
Mission
We offer a comprehensive and diverse neonatal training and practice experience, including:
- Care of more than 900 neonatal admissions per year, including extremely preterm and complex term infants (surgical and cardiac)
- Management of both inborn and outborn newborns with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions
- Participation in neonatal emergency transport services
- Antenatal consultations and multidisciplinary fetal care
- A strong culture of teamwork, mentorship, and structured onboarding
Postgraduate education is well established and includes:
- Grand rounds as well as nutrition and neurodevelopmental and ethical rounds
- Fetology rounds
- Morbidity and mortality reviews
- Journal clubs
- Clinical case presentations
- Simulation-based training programs
Supervision is provided by a team of eight experienced neonatologists, with expertise in neonatal neurology, nutrition, infectious diseases, hemodynamics, developmental follow-up, and neonatal resuscitation.
The unit is at the forefront of neonatal medicine and family-centered care, using advanced techniques and programs such as: INSURE and LISA, Conventional and high-frequency ventilation (HFO), CPAP and BiPAP, therapeutic hypothermia, cerebral ultrasound and monitoring , ultrasound-guided vascular access.
Developmental care and family-centered care are at the heart of our neonatal practice and continue to grow as key strategic priorities within the unit. We are committed to creating an environment where newborns and their families receive individualized, developmentally supportive care, and where parents are recognized as essential members of the care team. Through NIDCAP-based practices, parental involvement in daily rounds, skin-to-skin care, and multidisciplinary collaboration, we continuously strive to improve both the infant's neurodevelopmental outcomes and the family's experience throughout the neonatal journey.
CHUV is actively involved in numerous multicenter clinical studies. Candidates will have the opportunity to participate in these projects as well as in ongoing clinical and basic science research programs.
Profil
Neonatal Fellow (Chef.fe de clinique adjoint)
- Previous experience in a Level III NICU is mandatory (6 months at least)
- Experience in PICU is an advantage and strongly recommended
- FMH specialization in Pediatrics (or equivalent) preferred
Junior Neonatologist (Chef.fe de clinique)
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit required
- Swiss board certification or equivalent qualification in Neonatology
Language Requirements
- French language proficiency at C2 level is mandatory
