The Sports, Events and Maintenance Department of the City of Nyon consists of approximately 80 employees and is structured into six activity sectors: administration, sports, events, maintenance, sports infrastructure and logistics.
In a complex, cross-functional environment with high public and political visibility, the Department carries out diverse missions and involves coordinating numerous internal and external partners.
As the current post holder is retiring, the Department is looking for a:

Your mission
Leading a department of over 80 employees, you will ensure the strategic and operational management of the Department.
Your responsibilities include:
- Defining and proposing strategic orientations, public policies and objectives of the Department to the Municipal Council.
- Ensuring an efficient organisation of the Department, adapted to objectives, resources and evolving needs.
- Managing and supervising Department projects, ensuring their compliance with legal, regulatory and normative frameworks.
- Developing collaborations and representing the City with institutional, professional and associative partners.
- Organising and directing the Department, supervising sector managers and setting individual and collective objectives.
- Managing human resources, including recruitment, integration and skills development.
- Ensuring the quality of services and the application of procedures, directives, processes and management tools.
- Planning, monitoring and controlling the Department’s finances, both operational and investment budgets.
- Ensuring performance management, reporting, decision-support tools and seeking external funding.
- Advising the Municipal Council in your areas of expertise and contributing to the preparation of strategic decisions and the annual management report.
Your profile
You hold a higher education qualification relevant to the position, validated by a diploma, as well as excellent knowledge of the sports sector and its challenges, and demonstrated ability to understand and manage diverse activity areas. You have proven experience in a leadership or complex management role, ideally with multidisciplinary teams and executives, as well as in management, leadership and change management.
You possess excellent skills in analysing complex situations, developing a strategic vision and producing high-quality summaries to support decision-making. You are able to operate in a political environment, develop partnerships and represent the administration, as well as manage priorities, complex situations and stress.
You are occasionally available outside usual working hours, notably in the evenings and at weekends, depending on the Department’s needs.
Significant experience in one or more of the Department’s activity areas, good knowledge of public management principles, particularly governance, finance and human resources, as well as a good understanding of the functioning of a municipal administration, the Canton of Vaud, the region and their main institutional actors are desirable. Proficiency in one or more languages, especially German and English, is also an asset, as is a very good command of MS Office IT tools.
