The shortage of skilled workers in Switzerland is easing according to the latest Skilled Labor Shortage Index Switzerland. However, developers are still in high demand on the job market. Patricia Eggimann, Head of Human Resources at CyOne Security, explains in the interview the advantages the company particularly scores with when recruiting qualified employees.
The demand for skilled workers in Switzerland remains at a higher level than before the Corona pandemic despite significant easing. This is the conclusion of the current Skilled Labor Shortage Index Switzerland 2024 by the Adecco Group Switzerland and the Job Market Monitor of the University of Zurich. According to the report, software and IT application developers still hold top positions in the current ranking. The number of open positions in these professional fields is particularly large compared to job seekers.
At CyOne Security, the main focus of recruitment is clearly on software and hardware development. The attractive working conditions and the unique range of tasks in a technically challenging environment help to fill the exciting jobs with highly qualified employees.
For us, it is clear in recruitment that we explicitly do not look for job hoppers. Because our complex environment and specialized tasks require in-depth understanding – onboarding new employees accordingly takes a certain amount of time and personnel resources.
Basically, we consider the person as a whole: Does he or she also bring the desired social skills? Does he or she fit with their values into the respective team? However, I would like to point out that it can also be inspiring if someone brings new inputs. That can be an enrichment for the whole team. The decision whether to hire someone is finally made after careful consideration of all relevant criteria in the committee, together with the line managers.
Initially, the range of tasks is not everyday: We develop and distribute hardware and software security solutions so that, among other things, Swiss authorities can communicate highly securely. Therefore, the technical requirements for the work of our developers are very high. These are specialized tasks in a high-level technical environment. Very generally speaking, solutions must be sought and problems solved within specifications. These are not repetitive tasks, which makes the job overall very exciting.
For example, the manageable company size, the positive corporate culture, and the collegial working environment are optimal conditions for employees to feel comfortable. This is also reflected in the high loyalty of employees towards each other and the company. We observe a strong identification of employees with CyOne Security.

Apart from that, the workplace is well connected in terms of transport. And especially in summer, the modern, air-conditioned office spaces were very much appreciated.
I assess them as very positive. Employees treat each other with respect and openness. We also live a "du" culture, which consistently runs from apprentices to the CEO. Furthermore, it can be noted that the company is authentic: What is communicated is also lived. The positive team spirit is promoted, among other things, with great events. In addition, employees also appreciate the regular small seasonal attentions as a sign of appreciation for their work.
Of course, employees are promoted when there is an opportunity. For example, changing to a senior function or a project manager position are chances to take on more technical responsibility or the professional leadership of a project.
We place great value on the training and development opportunities for young professionals. Every year we train two new IT apprentices – in the fields of application development and platform development. We also support apprentices who simultaneously complete the vocational baccalaureate and therefore have an additional day of classes. We enable young people with a gymnasium diploma a shortened Way-up apprenticeship. Furthermore, we also assist with entry into the professional world: Graduates are employed further if possible. We also offer support in case of further studies. From our point of view, investing in the promotion of young talent is worthwhile because they are the future of the growing cyber security industry.
