Job description
The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva benefits from an enriching multicultural environment, to which it contributes through the missions it has set itself: teaching, research, and its partnership with Geneva University Hospitals (HUG).
To strengthen its team as part of a cancer research project aimed at developing new immunotherapies, the laboratory of Professor Camilla Jandus, within the Department of Pathology and Immunology (PATIM) at the University of Geneva, is seeking an experienced scientist for the position of:
Research and Teaching Fellow – 100%
Main responsibilities:
The successful candidate will work as part of a team. They will supervise the laboratory technicians involved in the project, contribute to the supervision of Master’s and PhD students, participate in the development of research projects as well as the organisation of animal facility activities. They will also take part in the preparation of scientific publications, articles, grant applications and authorisation requests.
Other responsibilities include organising, supervising and conducting experiments, as well as developing and optimising analytical methods. The successful candidate will also be responsible for collecting and analysing data, then presenting the results at internal and external meetings at local, national and international levels.
Required qualifications and skills
- PhD in cancer research, molecular biology or immuno-oncology (Master’s in biomedical biology an asset)
- Minimum 3 years postdoctoral experience
- High-level specific knowledge and skills such as genetic and transcriptomic analyses (scRNAseq on suspension and spatial cells) on patient samples, as well as the use of CRISPR/Cas9 technology for targeting genes of interest
- Scientific expertise in an academic environment more broadly in the following areas:
- cellular and tumour immunology in human and murine models
- tumour microenvironment biology and immune interactions
- development and analysis of preclinical oncology models
- culture and characterisation of primary and tumour cells of human and murine origin. Expertise in fundamental cell biology research (flow cytometry with >10 colours), molecular biology as well as expertise in functional assays (cell migration, co-culture, cytokine assays)
- Experience with murine preclinical models, including orthotopic tumour models and evaluation of immune responses in vivo and in vitro, is required. The ResAL Module 1 animal experimentation certificate is mandatory. Module 2 is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in designing scientific projects, obtaining competitive funding, and writing scientific articles.
- Written and spoken English – Proficiency level (main language for writing scientific reports and working in an international team).
