About the job
The basic training lasts three years. Vocational school lessons take place two days a week in Chur. Additionally, inter-company courses on various topics are conducted. In the first year of apprenticeship, you work from Monday to Friday or attend school. From the second year onwards, weekend shifts are also planned. Working hours are from 06:45 to 15:45, and from the second semester you may also do evening shifts until 20:15.You learn to assist elderly people with hygiene and personal care, help with dressing and undressing, shaving and hairdressing, promote the independence of those cared for, and build a trusting relationship. You help with meal intake and support people in using wheelchairs or walkers. You observe health conditions and accompany people at the end of life. During the course of training, you learn to measure temperature, blood pressure and pulse, prepare and administer medication, change dressings and care for wounds, and much more.
You attend secondary or intermediate school and have good grades in German. You are sociable, empathetic and helpful, patient and respectful. You have good observational skills and quick reflexes. You enjoy teamwork and contact with elderly people.
