About the job
Dental Hygiene and Sport
When I asked my husband what a change in the daily routine might mean in terms of dentistry, he wittily replied that crawling on your gums first thing in the morning is no solution either!
Seriously now, my dear dentist – you had to be pretty quick so I wouldn’t snatch away the kindly brought Sunday morning croissants right from under your nose!
You can clearly see who in our family takes on the sporty role, but also that there is always room for plenty of humour. 😉
But now seriously, of course there are many connections and parallels from the morning walk to dental care, even if it is just that what is supposed to work in the legs must already start in the head, whether physically or mentally.
Healthy, optimally performed oral hygiene takes time. Furthermore, the following should be noted:
– 2 – 3 times daily "conscious" tooth brushing
(wait at least 1 hour after acidic foods)
– use the right toothbrush (electric or manual)
(prefer medium to soft bristle quality)
– use suitable toothpaste (definitely fluoridated)
(there are graduated, age-appropriate toothpastes for children)
– use additional aids such as brush sticks if recommended by the dental hygienist, prophylaxis assistant, or dentist
– dental chewing gums do not replace tooth brushing but help to neutralise the pH value.
– register for a check-up and professional dental cleaning at the dentist at least once a year.
From a nutritional and sporting perspective, I can also advise you:
– Take your time consciously when eating for the chewing process, as carbohydrate digestion already begins in the mouth. It is also worthwhile to eat slowly to avoid bloating.
– 20 minutes daily in shirt sleeves in the fresh air contribute to an optimal vitamin D level.
– When brushing your teeth, engage your core muscles and you will have already completed part of your daily fitness programme. 😉
