The Witzwil Correctional Facility enforces sentences and measures on 184 adult men in open imprisonment as well as in administrative detention under immigration law. The inmates are guided and supported in various professions in agriculture, trade, and supply according to work-educational principles. Around 140 employees work consistently towards the goal of socialisation and reducing recidivism of the prisoners. Production goals and custodial goals do not compete but complement each other.

Your tasks

As a Custodial Officer, you are responsible for the leadership, care, and social work of 8 - 10 assigned persons.

• Creating custodial plans and writing custodial progress reports for the referring authority and courts
• Performing social service tasks
• Responsibility for the structured running of the residential group life
• Creating a socially acceptable environment for the inmate to fulfil the legal mandate
• Professional handling of conflicts, resistance, and emotionally stressful situations
• Accompanying leisure and occupational activities
• Close interdisciplinary cooperation with internal and external agencies
• Handling demanding administrative tasks
• You actively contribute to efficient and respectful collaboration and act according to the guiding principles of the Witzwil Correctional Facility. You will perform day, late, and weekend shifts on a rota basis

Your profile

• Training in the social or educational field
• Ideally several years of professional experience
• Respectful and professional interaction with people from different cultural backgrounds
• Resilient, stable, and open to criticism personality
• Enjoy working in a team and are interested and open to new things
• Very good written German skills and good spoken French skills
• Proficient use of common PC applications

About the Office for Correctional Services

The Office for Correctional Services (AJV) employs around 1000 staff within the Security Directorate of the Canton of Bern (SID) and is responsible for open and closed custodial and measure enforcement for adults and juveniles. To fulfil this task, the office has four concordat correctional facilities, four regional prisons, the surveillance station at Inselspital, the detention control centre, as well as probation and enforcement services at its disposal.
