Job Description
Reporting to the Manager La Palmeraie/ Banquets Maître d’Hôtel, the essential responsibilities and functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Consistently providing a professional, friendly and engaging service
- Replacing the Maître d’Hôtel or Manager during their absence
- Supervising (managing, training, motivating, recognising and developing) staff
- Demonstrating autonomy and ensuring good communication within the team and between relevant departments
- Managing the team, informing staff of hotel events and conducting briefings before events and debriefings afterwards
- Checking the events of the day and upcoming days and preparing events in collaboration with relevant departments (kitchen, stewarding, florist, administration, etc.)
- Organising your service, giving instructions (setup, tidying, cleaning) and ensuring they are followed
- Knowing how to use Silverware and checking the bill before presenting it to the client
- Checking all equipment used in the department (functionality, cleanliness, storage)
- Ensuring rooms are presentable at all times, even during periods of non-use
- Ensuring event setups are completed within deadlines and meet client requests, taking standards into account
- Ensuring clearing and restoring rooms are done correctly after events
- Ensuring every client is treated with attention, greeted kindly on arrival and departure, and served with care and respect
- Handling any client requests or complaints promptly and in accordance with procedures and regulations
- Ensuring staff are knowledgeable about hotel and regional events
- Demonstrating autonomy in managing staff working hours on call (optimising productivity, flexible start times)
- Participating in weekly department meetings
- Knowing, applying and ensuring the application of LQA (Leading Quality Assurance) technical and emotional standards
- Establishing action plans with the Maître d’Hôtel and Manager following results from the Opinion Survey, LQA, VOG (Voice Of Guest) and ensuring follow-up and results
- Participating in performance evaluations following probation and annually for staff
- Participating in recruitment of department staff using the SMART RECRUITER system
- Contributing to the department’s turnover and implementing actions to exceed it
- Daily checking of staff appearance and ensuring cleanliness of each
- Updating your profile on Ines
- Participating in an annual performance review with your Manager
- Being flexible and cooperative in all circumstances, especially when collaborating with another department on an ad hoc basis
- Committing to the quality of your service, discretion and absolute honesty
- Maintaining a professional attitude, smiling and remaining calm at all times
- Respecting ergonomic work standards, health & safety rules, hygiene and sanitary requirements
- Respecting department and company policies, procedures and service standards
- Any other tasks as assigned
Qualifications
- 1 year experience in a supervisory role
- 3 years experience in catering, especially in breakfast service and banqueting
- Written and spoken proficiency in French and English
- Knowledge of a third language is an asset
- Recognised diploma in service
- Experience in 4* or 5* hotel is an asset
- Knowledge of oenology is an asset
- Ability to manage large events
- Knowledge of Silverware software is an asset
- Previous experience with a point of sale system (POS)
- Ease with IT tools (Office Suite)
- Team supervision skills
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Flexibility regarding working hours
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to focus on client needs while remaining calm and courteous at all times

To work in Switzerland, the candidate must hold a Swiss work permit or be from an EU-17 or EU-8 European country.
