Job description
Assessors are lay judges who have decision-making authority in judicial matters ( art. 4 LJ ). An assessor is summoned according to the needs of the relevant authority. They receive session fees in accordance with art. 79a RJ . Assessors are elected by the Grand Council, on the recommendation of the Council of the Judiciary which advertises judicial functions for the Grand Council ( art. 12 LJ ).
Desired profile
- Civil engineering training
- Candidates must have sufficient availability for the role (sessions during the day)
- Active citizenship at the cantonal level. Foreign nationals must hold a settlement permit and have been domiciled in the canton for at least five years. Candidates must not be subject to bankruptcy proceedings, nor have been criminally convicted for acts incompatible with the role
- Proficiency in German with good knowledge of French
