The Vector Biology Group is inviting applications for a

PhD Position in Medical Entomology (100%)

Our research group investigates the biology, surveillance and control of insect vectors of human pathogens. We are offering a PhD position to study the behaviour and ecology of the invasive Asian tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus, and to evaluate innovative, community-based control strategies – including large-scale adult mosquito trapping – in Basel, Switzerland, as part of a cluster-randomised controlled trial.

YOUR VARIOUS RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Plan and conduct field experiments on mosquito behaviour and ecology
• Collect, manage and analyse entomological and environmental data
• Contribute to the development and evaluation of community-based vector control strategies
• Support the implementation of a cluster-randomised controlled trial
• Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at scientific conferences

YOU SHOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS IN:

• Master’s degree in biology, ecology, epidemiology, entomology or a related field
• Strong interest in vector biology, applied entomology and public health
• Experience with fieldwork and experimental design
• Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
• Quantitative skills and experience with statistical analysis (e.g. R) are an advantage
• Excellent communication skills in English; knowledge of German is an asset
