The Central Library Zurich is the cantonal, city and university library and one of the largest libraries in Switzerland. As a public foundation, it is supported by the city and canton of Zurich. For our Collection Preservation department in the Special Collections/Digitisation area, we are looking for a
Bookbinder (70%)
Your tasks
Are you looking for a varied role where you can bring your passion for traditional craftsmanship into play every day? At the Central Library Zurich, we bridge history and the future: you rescue historical holdings and preserve unique cultural assets for future generations. In doing so, you work hand in hand in a dedicated team of restorers, bookbinders and finishers. If you appreciate precise craftsmanship and want to help shape the diversity of modern library materials, you are exactly right with us.The position as bookbinder includes the following main tasks:
- Sorting media to be bound and not to be bound in the book flow
- Repair and conservation work on collection items
- Production and provision of conservation packaging
- Binding of sheet music and scores
- Active assistance with exhibitions in the reading room and Turicensia lounge
- Ordering, stocking and distributing office supplies
- Finishing work (cutting, laminating etc.)
- Maintaining statistics
Your profile
- Completed vocational training as a hand bookbinder / print media processor EFZ, specialising in bookbinding
- Professional experience and further training in conservation work desirable
- Careful, creative, solution-oriented working style and confident handling of library materials
- Friendly and customer-oriented attitude as well as pronounced team skills
- User knowledge of Microsoft 365
- Good self-management and physical resilience
- Willingness to work regularly at the external depot (Canton of Zurich)
