The Witzwil Correctional Facility enforces sentences and measures on 184 adult men in open imprisonment as well as in administrative detention under immigration law. The inmates are guided and supported in various professions in agriculture, trade, and supply according to work-pedagogical principles. Around 140 employees work consistently towards the goal of socialisation and reducing recidivism of the prisoners. Production goals and enforcement goals do not compete but complement each other.

Your tasks

• As a security service employee, you perform security, supervision, and intervention tasks daily during 24 hours in a 3-shift system
• You are responsible for the safety of the staff, the inmates, the visitors, and the protection of the public
• You are responsible for the professional and proper execution of personal, presence, property, and substance controls as well as receiving and handling telephone calls
• You know the procedures in emergencies and crisis situations and accompany the inmates during transfers
• Monitoring and controlling the security systems and administrative tasks, such as creating reports, documenting workflows, and recording events, complete your range of duties
• You work interdisciplinarily with other departments
• You perform weekend and on-call duties in rotation

Your profile

• You have an impeccable reputation and a completed vocational training with a federal certificate of competence in a craft, technical, social, or commercial field
• Preferably, you bring professional experience in the field of security (correctional services, emergency services, army) and basic knowledge in self-protection
• Working with inmates, mostly from other cultural backgrounds, is both a challenge and an incentive for you
• As a resilient, stable, open to criticism, and vigilant personality, you act calmly, thoughtfully, proportionately, and purposefully even in delicate situations
• You enjoy working in a team and are interested and open to new things
• You can express yourself confidently in spoken and written form and have good digital skills
• Oral communication in the official languages German and French comes easily to you. Preferably, you have another foreign language
• You hold a Swiss driving licence category B and are mobile

About the Office for Correctional Services

The Office for Correctional Services (AJV) employs around 1000 staff within the Security Directorate of the Canton of Bern (SID) and is responsible for open and closed penal and measure enforcement for adults and juveniles. To fulfil this task, the office has at its disposal four concordat correctional facilities, four regional prisons, the surveillance station at Inselspital, the detention control centre, as well as probation and enforcement services.
