Deputy Head of Department
Your Responsibilities
- In your role, you shape the strategic direction and further development of the AIB together with the Head of Department and share responsibility as a member of the management team for the successful implementation of the service mandate.
- You lead the technical department strategically, professionally and in terms of personnel, creating an environment with clear principles and targeted support that enables personal responsibility, professional excellence and strong collaboration.
- A key focus of your role is the management of large, complex and financially significant infrastructure projects. You are responsible for these from strategic conception and funding acquisition to successful realisation.
- As a driving force behind technical and operational development, you identify potential early and develop future-proof infrastructures, operational strategies and services with a special focus on cost-effectiveness, resource optimisation, circular economy and energy efficiency.
- You represent the technical department and the AIB in relevant committees and operate confidently at the interfaces between technology, administration, politics and the public. You communicate complex issues clearly and convincingly to municipalities, customers, political decision-makers and the media.
- You lead differing interests and challenging situations to viable and sustainable solutions with strategic judgement, negotiation skills and decisiveness.
Your Background
- You hold a university degree at master’s level in civil or environmental engineering or a comparable technical-scientific discipline. Scientific further training in urban water management as well as research or development experience ideally complement your profile.
- Many years of experience in the conception, planning and management of large and complex infrastructure projects are combined with in-depth expertise in wastewater treatment and process engineering.
- You combine strong analytical and conceptual skills with entrepreneurial thinking and confidently assess technical issues in the context of economic, ecological and regulatory frameworks. Knowledge of water and environmental law complements your professional competence.
- As an experienced and convincing leader, you take responsibility, show commitment and understand how to lead, support and challenge people with clarity and appreciation.
- Even with high complexity and simultaneous projects, you impress with strong organisational skills, high reliability and a systematic and structured way of working.
- You communicate confidently and appropriately for the audience and present yourself confidently and credibly to different stakeholders. Negotiation skills, conflict management and excellent German language skills, both spoken and written, complete your profile.

Office for Industrial Enterprises
The Office for Industrial Enterprises (AIB) is a department of the Building and Environmental Protection Directorate of the Canton Basel-Landschaft. With around 70 dedicated employees, we ensure the reliable operation of 26 wastewater treatment plants, 175 kilometres of sewerage and 2 landfills. We thus secure the preservation of the facilities, plan and implement technical infrastructure and make an important contribution to water protection and the sustainable treatment of recyclable materials.

In this key position, you take responsibility for monitoring, optimising and developing the cantonal wastewater and infrastructure projects from planning to implementation. At the same time, as a member of the management team, you actively contribute to the strategic further development of the AIB.
