The Medical Faculty of the University of Basel and the University Hospital Basel are appointing a clinical professorship in haematology combined with the role of Chief Physician of the Clinic for Haematology.
Due to the retirement of the current post holder, the professorship in haematology will become vacant. The university clinic for haematology at the University Hospital Basel is the largest treatment centre for allogeneic stem cell transplantation in Switzerland. In clinical care, Haematology Basel plays a leading national and international role, especially in the care of patients with allogeneic and autologous stem cell transplantation as well as in cellular therapy. Teaching and research enjoy a high national and international reputation. The research is broadly based and ranges from epidemiological and translational research to basic research.

Your Responsibilities
As head, you are responsible medically, economically, organisationally and academically for the university clinic for haematology. Through your clinical expertise and research background, you strengthen the national and international visibility of haematology at the University of Basel. You ensure and develop excellent service based on collaboration between haematological diagnostics, the Blood Donation Centre of both Basels, oncology and other clinics. Your clinical expertise and interest in medical training secure and promote modern education and training of assistant and senior physicians according to the guidelines of the Swiss Institute for Medical Continuing and Further Education (SIWF). With your commitment to university research and teaching, you inspire students for their subject and promote academic junior staff. Your participative, goal-oriented leadership style ensures an attractive working environment for academic and clinical specialists in your clinic. You lead a haematological research group, are present in international study groups and create a fertile environment for successful, team-oriented, translational research.
Your Profile
You hold a specialist medical title in haematology or an equivalent qualification. You have broad clinical and practical experience in all areas of haematology and stem cell transplantation (allogeneic and autologous). Additionally, you have successful, independent research activity in clinical, translational or experimental research. You have proven leadership experience in an academic environment, possess organisational talent and economic thinking. Thanks to your pronounced expertise, leadership and communication skills as well as your high social competence, you gain acceptance and trust. You create an attractive working environment, inspire creative thinking and action and promote your employees. Good German language skills or the willingness to acquire them within a reasonable period are required.
