IT Solutions Architect Senior Expert
Introduction
Are you passionate about shaping the future of digital payments and driving technological transformations? Do you want to translate complex business requirements into sustainable, highly secure, and state-of-the-art IT solutions? To strengthen our Enterprise Architecture & IT Solution Design team, we are looking for a highly qualified and motivated personality in Zurich - to start immediately or as agreed.
As a Senior Solution Architect, you will work closely with our existing team of expert architects, internal specialists, product, and engineering teams, as well as with our peers at partner banks. Together, you will design, build, and constantly drive excellence in our cashless payment products, playing a pivotal role in the strategic evolution and modernization of our core payment processing and risk management platforms.
You will advise and lead critical architecture initiatives, bridging the gap between technical platform strategies and our target operating model. Your role will involve gathering and analyzing requirements, designing resilient reference, architectures defining standards, and driving enterprise architecture governance and documentation. You will solve complex challenges across integration, API design, event-driven systems, and Zero Trust security to ensure our next-generation operations are scalable and future-ready.
Responsibilities
- Act as a key architectural driver for evolving legacy systems into next-generation platforms, working closely with cross-functional engineering teams and peer architects located in Zurich and Bioggio TI to ensure deep technical readiness.
- Drive the alignment of technical platform strategies with our target operating model. Guide the organization through complex IT transformations, ensuring that our people, processes, and technologies are fully equipped to achieve long-term strategic goals.
- Serve as a domain expert defining integration strategies for our complex, high-volume payment processing ecosystems.
- Collaborate on the architectural integration of risk management and fraud detection solutions into our broader payment ecosystem to ensure robust risk management stability.
- Champion application modernization initiatives through event-driven architectures, heavily utilizing event streaming and event sourcing patterns to uncouple legacy systems.
- Partner with security teams to embed security at every layer of the architecture. Contribute to STRIDE-LM threat modeling, ensure continuous compliance integration (including FINMA, PCI DSS), and help implement practical Zero Trust architecture principles.
- Actively participate in enterprise architecture governance and automation, utilizing tools like LeanIX to document applications, data flows, and interfaces, while providing collaborative oversight across multiple engineering teams.
Qualifications
- A university degree (ETH, Uni, FH) in computer science or a related field.
- Several years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture, with a proven track record of designing and uncoupling complex, large-scale distributed systems with modern integration patterns, and integrating third-party platforms.
- Deep knowledge of financial services infrastructure, transactional platforms, and payment processing workflows. Experience in cashless payment standards (e.g., EMV, ep2) is a strong advantage.
- Practical knowledge of domain-driven design and microservices architecture, API design (REST, OpenAPI, gRPC), and event-driven systems (e.g., Kafka). Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, GCP or AWS) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes). Having experience in hybrid environments is a significant advantage.
- Practical experience architecting highly resilient, fault-tolerant systems anchored in Zero Trust principles, including strong skills in threat modeling and SDLC compliance integration.
- You know how to align technical platform strategies with target operating models, effectively managing the human and process readiness required for major technological shifts.
- You are a strong communicator in English and German who can structure and articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Fluency in Italian is a plus.
